A five-month joint social media campaign by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Indonesia Business Coalition for Women Empowerment (IBCWE) has successfully reached over 87,000 views and generated nearly 225,000 impressions. The campaign, running from October 2025 to February 2026, focused on promoting gender equality, non-discrimination, leadership opportunities for women, and a workplace free from violence and harassment. Implemented under the ILO’s Realizing Trade Gains Free from Gender Discrimination and Child Labour (RealGains) project and funded by the Government of Canada, the campaign emphasized that inclusive workplaces are key to decent work, responsible business practices, and sustainable trade.
The campaign’s social media efforts on Instagram resulted in 82,470 views and 224,612 impressions. Women made up 63.5% of the audience, while men accounted for 36.5%. The largest group of engaged users were young professionals aged 25 to 34, reflecting growing awareness among the younger workforce about the importance of gender-responsive business practices. Through infographics, videos, articles, and key messages, the campaign highlighted the value of eliminating discrimination, promoting women’s leadership, and fostering workplaces that drive productivity, innovation, and resilience within supply chains.
Content addressing hidden barriers to workplace equality, such as long working hours without overtime compensation in the banking sector, received significant engagement, showing that the issues discussed were highly relevant to the daily experiences of workers. Another post about the challenges faced on the first day at work also sparked interaction, with many commenting on the importance of supportive work environments.
Dede Sudono, ILO’s RealGains Project Coordinator in Indonesia, emphasized that the campaign was part of a broader effort to align trade-driven growth with respect for fundamental rights at work, including gender equality. He noted that gender equality is crucial for building competitive and sustainable businesses, particularly in sectors connected to global trade. With equal opportunities, leadership roles, and safe work environments, businesses perform better and the benefits of trade are more widely shared. The campaign’s digital outreach successfully mobilized companies, workers, and young professionals to support these changes.
