Camden Council is continuing its commitment to refugees and asylum seekers by extending the Borough of Sanctuary grant scheme, aimed at fostering community integration and supporting displaced individuals. The funding will help expand initiatives designed to assist refugees and asylum seekers in rebuilding their lives after fleeing conflict. These initiatives focus on removing barriers to integration, enabling these individuals to become part of Camden’s vibrant community.
The extension of the grant scheme reflects Camden’s long-standing dedication to welcoming refugees, working closely with voluntary and community sector partners to create a compassionate environment. In July 2024, Camden was officially awarded Borough of Sanctuary status in recognition of its efforts to support displaced people. The support provided through this initiative includes access to essential services like health care, education, state benefits, and employment opportunities. Additionally, the council offers trauma-informed wellbeing support to help individuals adjust to life in a new country.
The grant scheme, which runs until 2026/27, has a total allocation of £370,000. The funding will be directed to lead partners supporting Afghan and Ukrainian refugees, as well as smaller organisations aiming to develop projects that support refugees’ transition from displaced individuals to fully integrated residents of Camden.
