The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is hosting the Waste Research, Development, and Innovation Roadmap Conference online from 3 to 5 March 2026. The conference highlights a decade of waste research, development, and innovation in South Africa, showcasing achievements from the Waste Research, Development, and Innovation (RD&I) Roadmap, an initiative supported by the Department of Science, Technology, and Innovation (DSTI).
Leading academics and sector experts from South Africa’s top institutions will present on diverse topics, including value recovery from agricultural and agro-processing organic waste, electronic waste, and plastic waste. The sessions will also examine the social, economic, and environmental impacts of mismanaged waste in the country, emphasizing the importance of sustainable waste management solutions.
The conference is organized in segmented webinar sessions to encourage active participation from industry professionals, researchers, media, and the public. It will demonstrate the collaborative and multidisciplinary nature of DSTI-funded Waste RD&I Roadmap projects and their contributions to South Africa’s waste management landscape.
The virtual conference will run each afternoon from 14:30 to 16:30 South African Standard Time, and members of the media are invited to attend all three days to cover the developments and insights shared.
