The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is showcasing breakthrough solutions to tackle global food insecurity at the WFP Innovation Forum 2026, an official side event of the Munich Security Conference. The forum, hosted by the WFP Innovation Accelerator on 12 February 2026, brings together government officials, private sector leaders, innovators, and philanthropic partners to highlight eight scalable solutions designed to improve humanitarian response, strengthen food systems, and foster investment and partnerships.
With 318 million people facing acute hunger worldwide, the WFP Innovation Accelerator has since 2015 supported over 500 ventures in more than 90 countries, catalyzing USD 382 million in funding and reaching more than 104 million people in 2025 alone. The innovations on display include SCOUT, an AI-driven supply chain optimization tool projected to save USD 25 million annually; People Portal, a self-registration system reducing costs and accelerating aid delivery; and Conflict Forecast, which uses predictive analytics to anticipate and respond to emerging conflict risks.
Other featured innovations include Jangala, a portable device providing scalable Wi-Fi to communities and emergency teams; Anomaly Detection for Assistance Delivery, which enhances data quality and fraud prevention; and Remer, a bio-formula improving soil health and crop yields. Inclusive Risk Financing (IRF) offers financial protection to vulnerable households, while School Connect monitors school feeding programs, tracking millions of meals for children worldwide.
The WFP Innovation Accelerator emphasizes the role of emerging technologies such as AI and blockchain in enhancing humanitarian efficiency amid conflict, climate shocks, and economic volatility. The forum is supported by partners including the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the Bavarian State Ministry of Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Tourism, and private sector organizations such as Google, BASF Stiftung, and John Deere.
Bernhard Kowatsch, Director of WFP Global Accelerator and Ventures, highlighted that the event demonstrates the impact of combining technology, local expertise, and innovation to address urgent global challenges. The WFP Innovation Forum continues to foster collaboration across governments, the private sector, and humanitarian actors to accelerate scalable solutions that strengthen resilience, protect vulnerable populations, and improve food security worldwide.
