Ireland’s Minister of State for International Development and Diaspora, Neale Richmond, has announced an additional €3 million in climate funding to support people living in some of the world’s most climate-vulnerable countries. The funding will be distributed equally among three Irish civil society organisations—Concern Worldwide, Christian Aid Ireland, and GOAL—to help scale up programmes in countries including South Sudan, Myanmar, Niger and Somalia.
Each organisation will receive €1 million to enhance programmes that provide critical support to communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis. These programmes aim to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable populations, helping them adapt to the immediate impacts of climate change while promoting longer-term mitigation and sustainable development measures.
Minister Richmond emphasized that the announcement aligns with Ireland’s commitment to provide at least €225 million annually in international climate finance. The additional funding reflects Ireland’s determination to assist those most affected by climate change, particularly in countries that have contributed least to the global crisis, supporting both adaptation and emission reduction initiatives.
