Bank of America has awarded a $500,000 grant to FIND Regional Food Bank to support the completion of its capital campaign for a new 40,000 square-foot warehouse on its Food Security Campus in Indio, California. As the largest food bank and distribution center in the region, FIND’s new facility provides nearly three times the space of its previous location, allowing it to better meet record-level demand for food assistance.
The grant, announced during FIND’s annual State of Hunger address for major stakeholders, will fund a state-of-the-art facility featuring extensive cold storage for fresh produce and a fully sustainable rooftop solar array. These improvements form a critical part of FIND’s disaster response and resiliency plan. The funding will also support workforce development training within the new warehouse. This contribution adds to nearly $200,000 in previous grants from Bank of America over the past five years.
Sherri Anderson, BofA Inland Empire president, highlighted that modern food banks provide more than meals—they serve as community hubs offering wellness programs, wraparound services, and workforce training. She noted that the bank’s support enables FIND to expand its space and strengthen the infrastructure needed to maintain fresh food supply during emergencies.
Debbie Espinosa, President and CEO of FIND Regional Food Bank, expressed gratitude for the grant, noting that it completes the capital campaign for the new warehouse and Workforce Development Training Center. The donation also enhances the food bank’s capacity to deliver fresh food, educational programs, and disaster-resilient services to the communities it serves, allowing it to meet growing demand across more than 100 nonprofit partner organizations.
Food insecurity remains a significant challenge in the Inland Empire, affecting nearly 11% of residents, including one in six children in San Bernardino County and one in seven in Riverside County. During the pandemic, demand for FIND’s services tripled, surpassing the storage capacity of its original 35,000 square-foot facility and additional leased warehouses.
The new warehouse, with expanded cold storage and refrigeration, allows FIND to increase fresh produce distribution by 60%, reduce reliance on remote storage, and ensure that emergency food supplies remain local for rapid response in future crises. Currently, FIND distributes over 20 million pounds of food annually through 155 distribution sites, serving 125,000 people each month via soup kitchens, food pantries, religious organizations, and other nonprofits.
