The federal government of Canada is inviting proposals for projects that aim to enhance equity and prevent harassment in federally regulated workplaces, with a total of $16.5 million in funding available over the next three years. Employment and Social Development Canada, in collaboration with the Privy Council Office, launched two calls for proposals targeting employers and organizations seeking to develop tools and resources that foster inclusive work environments and reduce workplace violence.
Funding will be provided through two established programs: the Workplace Opportunities: Removing Barriers to Equity program and the Workplace Harassment and Violence Prevention Fund. Selected applicants can receive up to $500,000 per year for a maximum of three years, beginning in June 2026. The Workplace Opportunities program aims to increase representation of women, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, and visible minorities in federally regulated private sectors by identifying industry-specific barriers and creating tailored inclusion tools. The Harassment and Violence Prevention Fund focuses on developing sector-specific resources to prevent harassment and violence, often through collaboration with industry partners.
Eligible applicants include employers’ associations, non-governmental and not-for-profit organizations, private-sector companies, academic institutions, and incorporated individuals. Successful applicants must make their final projects publicly available to allow other Canadian workplaces to benefit. Proposals are due by February 13, 2026, and two external review committees will evaluate submissions and provide funding recommendations to the minister of jobs and families in spring 2026.
Impact Canada, established in 2017, will collaborate with the Labour Program to assess the design and delivery of both programs, using an outcomes-based approach that emphasizes measurable results. The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to creating more inclusive, respectful, and barrier-free workplaces, ensuring that all workers have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
