JMMB Trinidad and Tobago has successfully raised over TT$540,000 through its CSR Disaster Relief fund, “One Love,” to support communities in Jamaica affected by Hurricane Melissa. The fundraising effort was a combined initiative, drawing contributions from the JMMB Group, its employees, and the wider Trinidad and Tobago public.
All proceeds from the fund will be directed to The Joan Duncan Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the JMMB Group in Jamaica. The donations will help repair homes, rebuild community centers, and restore essential infrastructure severely impacted by the hurricane, providing much-needed relief to affected communities.
Chantal Pereira, Country Marketing and Communications Manager at JMMB Trinidad and Tobago, emphasized the company’s commitment to community support, highlighting the importance of standing together during times of crisis. She noted that the donation reflects JMMB’s dedication not only to financial empowerment but also to the wellbeing of Caribbean communities.
The Joan Duncan Foundation has a long-standing record of promoting education, community development, and disaster recovery. This partnership ensures that aid reaches those most in need, offering tangible support and hope to families affected by Hurricane Melissa.
Hurricane Melissa, a catastrophic Category 5 storm, struck the Caribbean, particularly Jamaica and Cuba, between October 21 and November 4. It marked the first Category 5 hurricane to make direct landfall in Jamaica and is tied for the third-most intense Atlantic hurricane on record.
