BAPS Charities donated over 66,200 pounds (33.1 tons) of non-perishable food to local food banks across Canada during November and December 2025. Volunteers organized food drives in seven provinces, ensuring that families and individuals facing food insecurity received essential support. This initiative highlights the organization’s ongoing dedication to alleviating hunger during a time of growing need.
Rising costs for food, housing, fuel, and transportation have put immense pressure on Canadians, particularly children, single mothers, international students, and seniors, with nearly a quarter of the population living in food-insecure households. Many individuals rely on food banks to meet basic nutritional needs, with stories like that of Areeb, who accessed the Daily Bread Food Bank after losing his job, illustrating the vital role these organizations play in providing stability and hope.
Food banks across multiple provinces benefited from BAPS Charities’ donations, including Calgary and Edmonton Food Banks in Alberta, Deltassist Family and Community Services Society in British Columbia, Harvest Manitoba, Feed Nova Scotia, and numerous organizations in Ontario, Quebec, and Saskatchewan. The contributions ranged from several hundred pounds to over 10,000 pounds per location, reflecting the nationwide impact of the initiative.
Community leaders and representatives from supported organizations praised the charity’s efforts. City officials and MPs highlighted how BAPS Charities’ donations helped families access essential nutrition, strengthened community support networks, and encouraged other organizations to contribute. Representatives from food banks emphasized that these contributions not only address immediate needs but also enable long-term assistance and advocacy to fight poverty and food insecurity.
Yogesh Patel, President of BAPS Charities Canada, acknowledged the collective effort of volunteers, supporters, and partners in surpassing the previous year’s collection, emphasizing the unity and spirit of service that underpin the charity’s work. Beyond the food drives, BAPS Charities continues to serve communities across Canada through initiatives in medical, environmental, educational, and humanitarian services, embodying a holistic commitment to societal well-being.
This nationwide food donation campaign not only provided immediate relief to vulnerable Canadians but also reinforced the importance of community solidarity and inspired broader participation in supporting those in need during the holiday season.
