The UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL), in partnership with Huawei and as part of the Global Alliance for Literacy (GAL), has developed a new multilingual course aimed at empowering literacy educators with essential digital skills. This initiative emphasizes the growing importance of digital competencies for educators in guiding learners through an increasingly technology-driven society.
Currently available in English, the course will be offered in Arabic, French, and Spanish by early 2026, broadening its accessibility to literacy educators worldwide. It responds to the need for educators to adapt to rapid changes in learning, work, and daily life, where digital tools have become integral to participation and lifelong learning.
Designed for youth and adult literacy educators, the course equips participants with the knowledge and skills to integrate Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) into literacy instruction. Educators will learn innovative ways to enhance teaching and learning, create engaging digital materials, and foster curiosity and inspiration among learners. It also supports professional development by introducing the latest educational technology applications and best practices for continuous learning.
The program consists of eleven sessions delivered in a flexible, self-paced format, enabling educators to progressively strengthen their digital competencies. UIL encourages educators to join this global learning community, share experiences, and contribute to a collaborative network that empowers learners and advances lifelong learning.
This course represents a strategic step in equipping literacy educators to navigate digital transformation, improve instructional quality, and expand learning opportunities for youth and adults in diverse contexts.
