Germany has renewed its partnership with the United Nations Development Programme to support sustainable development efforts worldwide, reaffirming its role as a key multilateral partner. The renewed cooperation also includes continued support for UNDP’s Accelerator Labs, enabling the successful completion and scaling of this innovation programme. This commitment coincides with UNDP Administrator Alexander De Croo’s early engagement with partners in Berlin, where he expressed appreciation for Germany’s longstanding and consistent support.
This renewed support comes at a critical time as the global community faces escalating challenges such as health emergencies, climate change, conflict, and natural disasters. Germany’s contribution will strengthen UNDP’s ability to respond rapidly to crises, protect lives and livelihoods, and safeguard development gains. Aligned with UNDP’s Strategic Plan for 2026–2029, the funding will help deliver integrated and scalable solutions that advance human development while protecting the environment.
The flexible nature of Germany’s core funding allows UNDP to adapt quickly to emerging crises and prioritize assistance for the most vulnerable populations, particularly women and girls. This flexibility enables UNDP to maintain development progress and build resilience in fragile and conflict-affected settings, including regions such as Ukraine, Gaza, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and Haiti.
Core funding also enhances UNDP’s role as a multiplier of development resources. In 2024, the organization mobilized $7.4 in additional resources for every dollar of core funding received, extending its reach across more than 170 countries and regions. These contributions further support strong oversight and accountability systems, ensuring programmes are delivered efficiently, transparently, and with measurable impact.
Germany’s renewed contribution underscores its firm commitment to multilateralism and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. By reinforcing international cooperation, the partnership aims to address global challenges more effectively and promote a safer, more prosperous, and more equitable world. UNDP and Germany look forward to continuing their close collaboration to ensure that no one is left behind.
