The Delegation of the European Union, together with the embassies of EU Member States in Brazil, has opened registration for the European Union Human Rights Prize 2026. The award, now in its seventh edition, is launched on International Human Rights Day and coincides with the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The 2026 edition focuses on the theme “Together for Strengthening the Right to Political Participation” and aims to recognize a Brazilian Civil Society Organization (CSO) committed to defending human rights through initiatives that promote political participation. The award seeks to encourage voter education, inclusion in political and electoral processes, and the protection of democratic systems by combating disinformation and defending electoral transparency.
Eligible NGOs must have at least three years of formal establishment, operate in Brazil, and implement projects aligned with the award’s theme. Applications will be accepted until March 13, 2026.
The winning CSO will have the opportunity to travel to Brussels to engage with European institutions and will be formally recognized during the Europe Day celebrations on May 9, 2026, highlighting its contributions to strengthening democratic participation in Brazil.
