The Government of Ireland has reaffirmed its strong partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) by committing €7.75 million (around USD 9 million) in flexible core resources through a multi-year Memorandum of Understanding for 2024–2025. This timely support comes as the world grapples with health crises, climate change, conflicts, and natural disasters.
Ireland’s contribution will enable UNDP to respond swiftly to emergencies, protect lives and livelihoods, and safeguard hard-won development progress. The funding, aligned with UNDP’s Strategic Plan 2026–2029, strengthens integrated, scalable solutions that advance human development while safeguarding the planet. Core resources empower UNDP to adapt rapidly to changing needs and focus support on the most vulnerable communities, particularly women and girls who often face the greatest risks.
From Ukraine to Gaza, Sudan, and beyond, Ireland’s investment helps protect development gains and build resilience in fragile contexts. Core funding also allows UNDP to leverage additional resources, ensuring that every dollar mobilizes further impact. Moreover, it underpins UNDP’s oversight and accountability mechanisms, ensuring programs are delivered efficiently, transparently, and effectively.
This renewed commitment highlights Ireland’s dedication to multilateralism and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, emphasizing the importance of collective action in tackling today’s complex global challenges. UNDP looks forward to continuing its collaboration with Ireland to advance a more equitable and prosperous world where no one is left behind.
