The European Union is stepping up support for communities affected by Pakistan’s devastating floods, releasing an additional €3 million in emergency assistance. The funding, targeted at the hardest-hit areas of Punjab, will provide cash support to vulnerable households, helping them meet urgent needs and begin the process of rebuilding their lives.
This new allocation complements the €1.05 million already mobilized in September for essential services such as healthcare, clean water, and sanitation. The 2025 monsoon season has affected nearly 7 million people, displaced 2.9 million from their homes, claimed over a thousand lives, damaged more than 200,000 houses, and caused extensive agricultural losses.
Hadja Lahbib, EU Commissioner for Preparedness, Crisis Management and Equality, emphasized the urgency: “This monsoon season has been particularly destructive for many Pakistani communities. Punjab has faced the worst flooding in four decades. People have seen their homes, belongings, crops, and livestock washed away. This EU funding demonstrates our global solidarity and will provide much-needed support as they recover.”
With this latest contribution, EU humanitarian aid to Pakistan in 2025 now exceeds €14.5 million, reinforcing the union’s commitment to supporting recovery and resilience in the face of extreme weather events.
