NAPSA Director General, Mr. Muyangwa Muyangwa, met with ILO Country Office Director for Zambia and Malawi, Mr. Wellington Chibebe, in Lusaka, where the ILO pledged to provide technical and specialized support to strengthen Zambia’s social security systems. Mr. Chibebe emphasized that the ILO can assist NAPSA with actuarial valuations, policy development, and capacity building, while also highlighting the importance of collaboration during Zambia’s ongoing sensitization on ILO Convention 102, which sets minimum standards for social security.
Mr. Muyangwa welcomed the ILO’s commitment and stressed that increasing public awareness of NAPSA’s reforms and operations is critical for improving compliance and building trust in the system. He pointed out that many Zambians, particularly informal economy workers who constitute a large share of the workforce, are not sufficiently informed about social security and its benefits.
He further highlighted the need for public sensitization campaigns and capacity-building initiatives for NAPSA staff, supported by the ILO, to enhance knowledge sharing and technical training. These efforts aim to issue social security numbers to young people early, even before they enter the workforce, fostering a culture of social security from an early age and strengthening overall compliance.
