The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is hosting a virtual workshop on Gender Mainstreaming across Hydrometeorological Services on 25 November 2025, bringing together experts and practitioners from the UN system and national services to promote gender-responsive approaches in weather, climate, and water operations. The workshop emphasizes the importance of gender mainstreaming for delivering inclusive, equitable, and effective hydrometeorological services.
Participants will share good practices, identify challenges, and develop recommendations for integrating gender perspectives across the work of WMO’s Commission for Weather, Climate, Hydrological, Marine and related Environmental Services and Applications (SERCOM). By embedding gender considerations, hydrometeorological services can better address the diverse needs of communities and improve overall operational effectiveness.
Organized in collaboration with UN Women, UNICEF, and other UN-Water Members and Partners, the workshop will highlight how inclusive and equitable services can enhance the reach and impact of hydrometeorological information. Special attention will be given to applications in disaster risk reduction, health, agriculture, and energy, reinforcing the link between gender equality and the effectiveness of weather and climate services.
