The Delegation of the European Union to Albania has launched a new communication campaign, “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle for a Greener Albania,” to raise awareness among the business community about Albania’s transition towards a circular economy and to encourage sustainable business practices. The launch event, held at Europe House Tirana, brought together representatives from the Albanian government, EU Member States, international organisations, civil society, academia, and media to discuss climate priorities, challenges, and the role of fact-based environmental communication.
EU Ambassador Silvio Gonzato emphasized that Albania’s green transition is central to its EU integration, offering opportunities for sustainable growth, job creation, and public health protection. He highlighted the collective responsibility of government, businesses, civil society, media, and citizens in advancing climate action, noting the EU’s ongoing support through funding, expertise, and partnerships. Deputy Minister of Environment Elda Xhumari reaffirmed the government’s commitment to engaging the private sector in promoting a cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable Albania aligned with EU standards.
The launch featured a Climate Talk on sustainable climate solutions with contributions from Albanian climate and environmental experts, as well as a keynote address by Mirjana Matešić, EU Climate Pact Ambassador, on the role of EU integration in strengthening Albania’s climate action and resilience. The discussion concluded with a call for stronger collaboration between institutions, businesses, and civil society to accelerate Albania’s green transition and foster informed public dialogue on environmental issues.
The campaign, marking the start of a six-part series over the next two years, aims to educate Albanian citizens on protecting the environment, promoting proper waste management, and advancing a circular economy. Activities include business networking events highlighting EU green funding opportunities, recognition of women entrepreneurs through the “Green Queens Award,” a University Forum in Vlora on sustainable tourism and circular economy, and a podcast series showcasing companies embracing green innovation.
“Reduce, Reuse, Recycle for a Greener Albania” is part of the EU4GreenGen project, an EU-funded initiative supporting Albania’s green transition and aligning with EU accession requirements under Chapter 27 on Environment and Climate Change. Over the past decade, the EU has invested more than €280 million in Albania’s environment, water, and climate sectors, making it the country’s largest donor and partner in advancing sustainable development.
