The Garden Conservancy has announced the recipients of its 2025 Garden Futures Grants, awarding $145,000 to 27 small public gardens and nonprofit organizations across the United States. The grants aim to support innovative and diverse gardening practices while recognizing organizations that foster meaningful community impact through garden-based programs or advance the preservation and study of garden history.
Funding for the Garden Futures Grants is provided for general operating support and typically ranges from $2,500 to $10,000. Additionally, the Page Dickey Grant for American Gardens, an endowed grant of $10,000, is awarded annually to a distinguished small public garden, with Legacy Heritage in Montgomery, Alabama, selected as this year’s recipient.
The 2025 awardees include a wide range of organizations from across the country, such as the Archives of American Gardens at the Smithsonian in Washington, DC; Denver Urban Gardens in Colorado; Zilker Botanical Garden Conservancy in Texas; Dumbarton Oaks Park Conservancy in Washington, DC; and the Knoxville Botanical Garden in Tennessee. Other recipients include community-focused programs like Growing Veterans in Washington, Homegrown National Park in Massachusetts, and La Huerta Roots & Rays in Chicago, illustrating the diversity of approaches in garden stewardship, education, and conservation.
By investing in these organizations, the Garden Conservancy seeks to promote resilient green spaces, preserve garden heritage, and inspire broader public engagement with horticulture. The grants highlight the role of small gardens and nonprofits in shaping sustainable, innovative, and inclusive gardening practices nationwide.
