The Welsh Government has launched the Digital Inclusion Wales Grant to support projects that help people overcome barriers to using digital technology. The programme focuses on improving basic digital skills, building confidence, and providing the tools and support needed at the local level. By addressing these challenges, the grant aims to ensure that everyone in Wales can access the benefits of digital technology if they choose, reducing disadvantages in financial, social, and overall well-being outcomes.
The grant has been welcomed by organisations working with people often excluded from the digital world. Ashley Bale, Digital Innovations Manager at Innovative Trust, highlighted that the funding will help individuals go beyond minimum digital standards, empowering them to access essential services, employment, and opportunities while improving independence and well-being.
Funding is open to a wide range of sectors, including community groups, social enterprises, third sector organisations, faith groups, and public and private bodies. Two types of grants are available: the Core Grant, which supports long-term projects up to three years based on local needs with around £390,000 available annually, and the Innovation Grant, which funds short-term projects testing creative approaches to digital inclusion, with £60,000 allocated. Typical awards are approximately £43,500 for Core Grants and £15,000 for Innovation Grants.
The initiative builds on previous Welsh Government digital inclusion programmes and work on establishing a minimum digital living standard. Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, Jane Hutt, emphasized that digital confidence is crucial for everyday life, including accessing services and staying connected with family and friends. She encouraged applications from projects that foster partnerships, collaboration, or embed digital inclusion within existing services.
Applications for the Digital Inclusion Wales Grant open on 17 November 2025 and close on 9 February 2026.
