South Australia has launched a $2.9 million grant program to make community sport more accessible and to encourage greater participation across the state. The program, called the Sector Success Program (SSP), is designed to support clubs and sporting organisations in growing their capacity, particularly by attracting and retaining volunteers, and building workforce capability.
The SSP invites projects that offer practical and innovative solutions to strengthen volunteer networks, foster sector leadership, and develop a skilled and sustainable workforce. Funding of up to $250,000 per project is available for up to two years, helping organisations implement initiatives that support both paid and volunteer roles within the community sport sector.
The program operates through two funding streams. The Targeted Stream focuses on workforce and volunteer development, while the Open Stream supports projects that promote inclusive participation under two strategic priorities: welcoming communities by creating safe and accessible environments, and encouraging active participation among children and young people. Projects must also align with the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing’s 2025–2030 Strategic Plan and the applicant organisation’s priorities.
Developed following extensive consultation with stakeholders, the SSP reflects the evolving needs of communities, particularly addressing challenges such as volunteer burnout, cost-of-living pressures, and changing expectations. Applications close on Wednesday, 19 November 2025, and more information is available on the official grant website.
Rhiannon Pearce highlighted that the program represents an investment in the people and initiatives that make sport and active recreation stronger, more inclusive, and better equipped for the future, ensuring that South Australians of all ages and backgrounds can enjoy the benefits of participation.
