The Government of the United Kingdom has renewed its partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) by investing GBP 11 million (approximately USD 14.7 million) to advance sustainable development worldwide. This renewed support comes at a time of global uncertainty, with countries facing overlapping crises such as health emergencies, climate change, conflicts, and natural disasters. The contribution will strengthen UNDP’s capacity to respond swiftly to crises, protect lives and livelihoods, and preserve hard-won development progress, in alignment with UNDP’s new Strategic Plan (2026–2029).
The flexible funding provided by the United Kingdom allows UNDP to direct resources where they are most needed, especially in crisis-affected regions and among vulnerable populations, including women and girls. This adaptability ensures that communities in fragile contexts—from Ukraine and Afghanistan to Haiti and Pakistan—receive timely assistance to rebuild resilience and sustain development.
Core funding serves as a catalyst for broader development impact, enabling UNDP to leverage additional resources for its work in over 170 countries. In 2024, every dollar of core funding helped mobilize an additional $7.4 in other resources. These funds also enhance UNDP’s oversight, transparency, and accountability, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of development programmes.
Through this renewed contribution, the United Kingdom reinforces its commitment to multilateral cooperation and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The partnership exemplifies the shared vision of both the UK and UNDP to build a more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable world where no one is left behind.
