The upcoming event will highlight how integrated investments in employment, skills, and social protection policies can drive the three main goals of social development—poverty eradication, full and productive employment and decent work for all, and social integration. It aims to demonstrate that coordinated approaches in these areas can lead to stronger social and economic outcomes, reinforcing sustainable and inclusive development.
A central focus will be the Global Accelerator on Jobs and Social Protection for Just Transitions and its multistakeholder engagement mechanism (M-GA). These initiatives serve as effective tools for implementing the political declaration of the World Summit for Social Development 2 (WSSD2), providing practical examples of how partnerships can accelerate progress toward social justice and equality.
The Global Accelerator and M-GA emphasize the importance of placing social development at the core of economic growth and managing transitions related to ecology, demographics, and digitalization. By promoting access to decent jobs, social protection, and skills development, they ensure that these transformations are equitable and inclusive. Investments in these areas have shown significant returns, including higher GDP growth, increased fiscal space, stronger aggregate demand, and improved conditions for both public and private investment.
These initiatives foster collaboration among key government ministries—including labour, social development, economy, finance, and planning—as well as public development banks, private sector actors, civil society, and international organizations. Through multilateral cooperation and country-led platforms, they aim to design investments and projects that generate greater social impact and advance the social dimensions of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Recognized by member states in the WSSD2 political declaration and the Food for Thought paper, the Global Accelerator and M-GA are also featured as key action-oriented initiatives under the FFD4 Sevilla Platform for Action. This session contributes to the USP2030 series, focusing on maximizing social development outcomes through universal social protection systems.
The event is co-organized by multiple national governments—including Belgium, France, Germany, Indonesia, Ireland, Korea, Nepal, Senegal, Spain, and Uzbekistan—alongside UN agencies such as the ILO, UNICEF, UNDP, UN Women, FAO, and WFP, as well as the World Bank and the Joint SDG Fund. It will be held online.
