Tanzania’s Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and partners, has launched an upgraded National Health Portal aimed at improving access to quality health data and promoting evidence-based decision-making. This marks a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to strengthen its health information systems and enhance the use of real-time data for policy and program planning.
The enhanced platform provides a centralized and user-friendly interface where users can access routine health statistics, surveys, reports, and thematic analyses. It empowers health professionals, policymakers, and development partners to make informed decisions, improve health service delivery, and track progress toward national and global health goals.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Seif Shekalaghe, highlighted that the National Health Portal — first established in 2015 under the Monitoring and Evaluation section — serves as the Ministry’s official hub for disseminating accurate and timely health information. Updated quarterly from multiple reporting sources, the portal underscores the government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and data-driven health governance.
WHO Health Systems Coordinator, Dr. Fedjo Galbert, reaffirmed WHO’s ongoing support, noting that reliable and accessible data is crucial for improving health services and guiding national policy decisions. He emphasized that WHO will continue working with Tanzania to strengthen health information systems and ensure that data leads to meaningful action.
Through this initiative, Tanzania and its partners aim to transform health data into actionable insights — helping to save lives, improve system efficiency, and build a more resilient healthcare framework for the future.
