The Cultural Hall in Teiu, located on the left bank of the Nistru River, has reopened after its first major renovation in 55 years. The restoration was made possible through the European Union’s Confidence Building Measures Programme, implemented by UNDP. With an investment of approximately €103,907, the project carried out essential repairs to enhance event conditions, including a complete roof replacement, new windows in the banquet hall, and the installation of modern sanitary facilities.
The Cultural Hall serves as an important community hub, home to six artistic ensembles—four dance groups, a guitar group, and a drum ensemble—and also offers craft courses for all ages. It regularly hosts cultural events that bring together residents from Teiu and neighboring areas, including participants from the right bank of the Nistru. According to Artistic Director Natalia Galatonova, the renovation saved the building from collapse and reignited local interest in cultural and artistic activities.
The renovation was identified as a community priority through consultations with residents and former locals, facilitated by the hometown association. Local efforts also raised about 40,000 lei to renovate the foyer, reflecting strong community engagement. Under EU and UNDP guidance, the hometown association learned to mobilize local and diaspora resources to fund development projects, fostering sustainable community improvement.
The Teiu Cultural Hall renovation is one of six infrastructure projects supported by the EU and UNDP across both banks of the Nistru River. Through such initiatives, the European Union and UNDP continue to strengthen cooperation and social cohesion between communities, promoting local development and cultural exchange.
