In Manila, the International Labour Organization (ILO) is pioneering the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into enterprise development in the Philippines through its Sustaining Competitive and Responsible Enterprises (SCORE) programme. In collaboration with the UN Joint SDG Fund programme on an Inclusive, Competitive, and Responsible Digital Philippines (Digital-PINAS), the initiative introduces AI tools into training modules for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), providing practical, low-cost digital solutions that enhance operational efficiency, workplace collaboration, and business resilience in a digital economy.
Since 2022, the SCORE programme has guided Philippine enterprises in adopting global best practices in teamwork, occupational safety and health, and performance management. The integration of AI now enables SMEs to become more data-driven and agile by combining human creativity with intelligent technologies. In August 2025, SCORE trainers and Enterprise Improvement Teams (EITs) participated in a refresher series on AI for Enterprise Improvement, learning how AI can streamline document drafting, grievance procedures, communication channels, and real-time tracking of performance indicators such as quality, cost, delivery, morale, and safety (QCDMS). This allows businesses to visualize data instantly, identify trends, and make informed decisions on the spot.
AI applications extend directly to the factory floor through predictive maintenance systems, AI-powered safety checks, and digital dashboards, reducing manual workloads and enabling workers to focus on creative problem-solving and innovation. The initiative emphasizes that AI is a tool to empower, not replace, workers, aligning with the ILO’s commitment to inclusive innovation and decent work.
As the programme scales nationwide, the ILO and its partners are calling on enterprises, industry associations, and policymakers to expand AI-powered SCORE training, offering Philippine SMEs the opportunity to modernize operations, strengthen improvement teams, and unlock productivity gains while safeguarding workers’ rights. By responsibly harnessing AI, Filipino enterprises can enhance competitiveness, inclusivity, and future readiness, demonstrating that digital transformation and enterprise development can advance together under the principles of social justice.
