The EIB Institute, the philanthropic arm of the European Investment Bank Group (EIB Group), has announced a donation of €750,000 to support humanitarian relief efforts in Gaza, focusing on medical aid and nutritional assistance. The funding will prioritize vulnerable groups most affected by the recent conflict, including children, who represent over half of Gaza’s population. The donation will be managed through established international NGOs, Welthungerhilfe and CARE, to ensure efficient delivery of lifesaving health and nutrition services such as acute malnutrition screening, disease prevention, and essential care for pregnant and breastfeeding women.
EIB President Nadia Calviño emphasized the EIB Group’s solidarity with the Palestinian people, highlighting the organization’s commitment to providing urgent medical and nutritional support through trusted humanitarian partners. EIB Vice-President Gelsomina Vigliotti added that the donation aims to assist those suffering the most, ensuring that aid reaches the groups in greatest need. This contribution builds on previous EIB Institute support, including a €250,000 donation in 2024 that provided healthcare, mental health services, and emergency nutrition assistance to approximately 90,000 people in Gaza.
The EIB’s broader engagement in the region also includes a €400 million financing facility with the Palestine Monetary Authority to support economic recovery and resilience for Palestinian micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises. This forms part of the European Commission’s Multiannual and Comprehensive Programme for Palestinian Recovery and Resilience, a €1.6 billion initiative spanning 2025–2027 aimed at supporting public institutions, concrete resilience projects, and the private sector in Gaza and the West Bank.
The EIB Institute has a history of responding to humanitarian crises globally, including emergencies in Ukraine, Türkiye, Syria, Morocco, Slovenia, and Spain. The Institute applies rigorous integrity and compliance procedures to ensure that funds are disbursed safely and effectively, with all partner organizations passing strict checks before receiving aid.
The EIB Group, Europe’s largest multilateral financial institution, operates globally to support sustainable development, climate action, innovation, and social infrastructure. Its development arm, EIB Global, delivered €8.4 billion in 2024 to address global challenges. The EIB Institute complements these efforts through initiatives in education, youth engagement, civic participation, disaster relief, and community resilience, partnering with universities, foundations, and NGOs to maximize social impact across Europe and beyond.
