The Ontario government is investing $3.2 million to launch the next intake of funding applications under the Indigenous Economic Development Fund (IEDF), aimed at supporting Indigenous businesses, communities, and organizations to boost economic growth and create jobs across the province. The program forms part of Ontario’s broader plan to foster prosperity and opportunities for Indigenous communities.
Minister Greg Rickford emphasized that strategic investments like the IEDF are vital for supporting Indigenous-led businesses that generate employment and drive economic development. The fund also aims to build strong partnerships with Indigenous communities, ensuring that benefits extend to future generations.
The IEDF provides financial support to enhance economic development and expand access to Indigenous-led employment and training opportunities. Previous projects supported by the fund include trades training programs led by Anishinabek Employment and Training Services and tourism development initiatives in Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, demonstrating the fund’s role in fostering diverse economic activities.
Ontario’s investment in specialized programs like the IEDF contributes to creating meaningful opportunities for Indigenous peoples while promoting resilient and inclusive local economies. The government continues to engage with First Nations communities and Indigenous organizations to identify priorities and partnership opportunities that advance economic reconciliation.
Applications for the 2025 IEDF intake are open until December 1, 2025, and must be submitted through Transfer Payment Ontario. Applicants are required to register with the platform to apply and manage their funding requests. This funding complements other initiatives, including the Indigenous Community Capital Grant Program and the Capacity and Growth Fund, which collectively support Indigenous-led economic development, infrastructure, food security, and wealth creation in the province.
