WFP, Tajikistan Sign Agreement to Boost Digital Agriculture and Youth Opportunities

Dated: October 17, 2025

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Tajikistan have signed a Technical Assistance Agreement to implement the project titled “Engaging Youth Smallholder Farmers through Agri-Tech for Improved Food Security and Value Chains,” supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). The agreement represents a major step forward in Tajikistan’s efforts to modernize its agricultural sector through the use of digital technologies, youth engagement, and inclusive partnerships. It also supports the Government’s Agricultural Digitization Strategy (2025–2027), which focuses on enhancing innovation, knowledge sharing, and strengthening value chain connectivity across the sector.

As part of the collaboration, the Ministry of Agriculture will co-chair the project’s Steering Committee and lead the Technical Working Group on Digital Agriculture. Through this initiative, around 10,000 young people aged 15 to 35 will receive training in digital agricultural practices, empowering them to adopt modern tools and approaches that can improve productivity, food security, and income generation.

WFP’s Representative and Country Director in Tajikistan, Adham Musallam, emphasized that the partnership underscores a shared commitment to building a resilient and technology-driven agricultural economy. By combining digital innovation with skills development, the initiative aims to create new economic opportunities for young farmers and strengthen the country’s food systems.

WFP reaffirmed its dedication to supporting Tajikistan’s agricultural transformation through strategic partnerships, digital solutions, and youth-led innovation. The initiative is expected to contribute to long-term food security, improved agricultural efficiency, and greater youth participation in the country’s evolving digital economy.
