A broad consultation in Portugal has been conducted to assess the current landscape of gender equality in the workplace. Through interviews with key informants, the initiative mapped institutional roles and expectations, reviewed relevant legislation, policies, and family-friendly measures, and analyzed work-life balance practices. The consultation also examined key indicators such as the gender pay gap, occupational and sectoral segregation, women’s representation in leadership, discrimination in career progression, and time use.
Participating organizations were invited to reflect on their missions, priorities, and challenges over a five- to ten-year horizon, with the goal of promoting greater gender equality in Portugal’s labour market.
The insights gathered from this consultation will inform a comprehensive analysis of the current state of gender equality at work in Portugal and provide a foundation for developing policy recommendations to foster a more inclusive labour market.
This project, titled “Promoting Gender Equality and Work-Life Balance Policies in the Labour Market in Portugal,” is funded by the European Union and implemented by the International Labour Organization (ILO).
