Delivery Hero, the world’s leading local delivery company, has announced its most ambitious initiative yet in combating global hunger, committing to facilitate the donation of 111 million meals in 2025. Collaborating with the UN World Food Programme (WFP), the Global FoodBanking Network (GFN), and other charity partners, the company aims to leverage its extensive global network of local brands—including PedidosYa, Glovo, foodora, foodpanda, talabat, Woowa, efood, and Yemeksepeti—alongside hundreds of local organizations to reach this goal. The announcement coincides with World Food Day, emphasizing the urgent need for collective action in addressing food insecurity worldwide.
Hunger has risen for the sixth consecutive year, according to the Global Report on Food Crises 2025, with over 295 million people across 53 countries facing acute food insecurity—an increase of nearly 14 million from 2023. Delivery Hero sees itself at the intersection of food and technology, using its platforms to connect individuals with local food causes and meal programs globally. Through these efforts, everyday customer interactions can become acts of kindness, supporting communities and strengthening local food systems.
One of the key strategies in this initiative is digital meal donations. Building on the momentum from 2024, when Delivery Hero helped donate approximately 15 million meals, the company has expanded digital donation features across its brands, allowing customers to contribute directly through the platform. These donations are directed to partners such as GFN, which supports food banks in over 50 countries, ensuring that surplus food reaches people in need rather than going to waste.
The partnership with GFN exemplifies the power of collective action in tackling hunger. By connecting Delivery Hero’s platforms and communities with food banks worldwide, the initiative ensures that donations have tangible, lasting impact. As GFN’s Director of Food Systems Partnerships, Ignacio Gavilán, emphasized, collaboration between companies, consumers, and food banks can unlock meaningful change, helping build a future where communities everywhere have access to the nourishment they need to thrive.
