Save the Children International has announced the finalists for its Global Media Awards 2025, celebrating excellence in journalism that highlights critical child rights issues worldwide. The awards recognize the vital role of journalists in uncovering stories that drive awareness, inspire action, and create positive change for children. The 2025 awards continue the tradition established in 2024, marking a century since the first Declaration of the Rights of the Child was adopted.
Finalists come from a diverse range of news outlets across the globe, showcasing reporting that addresses child labor, conflict, climate change, education, and the protection of vulnerable children. These stories emphasize the impact of journalism in holding perpetrators accountable and giving a voice to children whose rights are under threat.
An independent panel of esteemed journalists will evaluate the finalists across four categories: Written News, Broadcast, Radio/Podcast, and Photography. Winners will be announced during a virtual ceremony on World Children’s Day, 20 November 2025.
Notable written news finalists include BBC News Mundo, Daraj Media, and 7IBER Magazine, covering topics from adoption and miscarriages in Gaza to child labor in agriculture. Broadcast finalists, such as Africa Uncensored and The Guardian, explore issues like disappearing children in urban slums and the impact of conflict on young lives. Radio and podcast entries, including BBC Radio 4 and Splash 105.5FM, highlight challenges like period poverty and the experiences of marginalized children. Photography finalists like Agence France-Presse and European Pressphoto Agency capture the stark realities of children affected by war, displacement, and social inequities.
