In response to the devastating floods that recently struck several Sudanese states, Qatar Charity has launched an urgent humanitarian intervention to support thousands of affected families. With the backing of charitable individuals in Qatar, the organization aims to provide immediate relief to help communities cope with the disaster, which has worsened the hardships caused by ongoing conflict and the approaching autumn season, raising the risk of disease and epidemic outbreaks.
Qatar Charity plans to assist over 100,000 of the most vulnerable people across Khartoum, White Nile, Al-Jazirah, and the Nile River states. Rising water levels in the Nile, Blue Nile, and White Nile have destroyed homes and farmland, leaving many families without shelter. Field teams are actively monitoring and assessing the needs of affected populations, with particular attention to women, children, the elderly, and people with special needs, to provide targeted support and immediate relief.
The planned aid package includes 4,000 food baskets to address acute hunger and malnutrition, 1,500 family tents for temporary shelter, 2,000 floor mattresses, 3,000 blankets, 2,000 personal hygiene kits, and 2,000 kitchen equipment sets to help families restore daily life. Additionally, 3,000 insecticide-treated mosquito nets will be distributed to prevent vector-borne diseases such as malaria, which often spread following floods.
The floods have caused widespread damage to homes, residential areas, and agricultural land across Blue Nile State, Sennar, Gezira, Khartoum, River Nile, and Northern State. Authorities warn that rising water levels continue to threaten lives and property. The United Nations has highlighted the deepening humanitarian crisis in Sudan, emphasizing the urgent need for shelter and support for thousands of families. Meanwhile, the General Administration of Nile Water Affairs has urged residents along the Nile to take immediate precautions to protect themselves and their property.
