The Ontario government is awarding Milton $8.4 million through the second round of the Building Faster Fund, which rewards municipalities that meet at least 80 percent of their provincially designated housing targets. In 2024, Milton broke ground on 2,260 new homes—nearly 130 percent of its housing target—qualifying it for this significant funding. The investment will support additional housing development and essential community infrastructure, contributing to Ontario’s plan to drive economic growth and keep workers employed.
“Through the Building Faster Fund, we’re partnering with Mayor Krantz to get shovels in the ground in Milton,” said Graydon Smith, Associate Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing. “This funding, alongside new legislation, helps streamline approvals and accelerate homebuilding in collaboration with municipalities across Ontario.”
Launched in August 2023, the Building Faster Fund is a three-year, $1.2 billion program that incentivizes municipalities to speed up approval processes and meet housing targets. Municipalities achieving significant progress are rewarded with funding for housing-enabling and community infrastructure projects.
In Halton Region, Ontario is investing nearly $35 million through the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program to support over 29,000 new homes, including $10.5 million earmarked for Milton.
Mayor Gord Krantz expressed gratitude for the funding, noting, “This investment will support critical infrastructure such as stormwater management, road rehabilitation, and active transportation routes, directly enabling housing in our growing community. It strengthens our efforts to create complete, connected communities and ensures Milton remains a Place of Possibility.”
The provincial government is also streamlining development processes and reducing costs through the Protect Ontario by Building Faster and Smarter Act 2025, further supporting municipalities in accelerating home construction and infrastructure development.
