In 2024, Gavi-supported vaccination programmes saved a record-breaking 1.7 million lives, 400,000 more than in 2023, according to Gavi’s Annual Progress Report. The achievement highlights significant gains in immunising children across lower-income countries, including those facing major humanitarian and conflict-related challenges. Beyond health benefits, Gavi’s programmes generated nearly US$ 20 billion in economic value in 2024, bringing the Alliance’s total economic impact since 2000 to US$ 280 billion. Countries increasingly share the cost of their vaccination programmes, contributing a record US$ 255 million in 2024.
The year also marked historic progress for malaria vaccinations, with the world’s first malaria vaccines deployed widely across 23 African countries, protecting millions of children in regions bearing more than 70% of the global malaria burden. Routine immunisation coverage rose across Gavi-supported countries, including fragile and conflict-affected states such as Mali, Syria, and Haiti, although countries like Sudan and Yemen experienced setbacks due to ongoing conflict. Gavi’s efforts in these environments underscore its commitment to reaching vulnerable and hard-to-reach populations.
Since its establishment in 2000, Gavi has immunised over 1.2 billion unique children against deadly diseases through routine programmes and delivered more than 2.1 billion vaccinations through preventive campaigns. These efforts, combined with hundreds of outbreak response operations, have prevented at least 20.6 million deaths, reduced potential cases by nearly 60%, and strengthened health systems while advancing equity.
Looking ahead, Gavi is focusing on expanding its country-led approach through the Gavi Leap reform programme. This initiative aims to make immunisation programmes more responsive to the unique needs of each country and community, enhance last-mile delivery, and improve collaboration with public and private partners. Gavi continues to play a critical role in global health security, supporting vaccine stockpiles and employing innovative technologies to reach children who have not received even a single vaccine dose.
Through its partnerships with governments, WHO, UNICEF, the World Bank, and other stakeholders, Gavi has transformed global immunisation, protecting generations of children while fostering resilient and productive communities. The Alliance remains committed to sustaining progress, expanding coverage, and prioritising zero-dose children to ensure equitable access to life-saving vaccines worldwide.
