The Delegation of the European Union to Mauritania, active in the country since 1973, represents the EU and manages programs across a wide range of sectors, including politics, training, employment, civil society, migration, human rights, rural and local development, fisheries, food security, stability and defense, and communication. The Delegation works closely with national and local authorities, civil society organizations, and other partners to implement its initiatives effectively.
In 2025, as part of its annual initiative “Green Diplomacy Week,” the EU Delegation in Mauritania is launching a call for projects to select a local NGO or association to organize the activities for the event. Green Diplomacy Week aims to raise awareness about climate change, promote ecological transition, and showcase concrete environmental initiatives carried out in partnership with local stakeholders, including NGOs, associations, and businesses. The selected organization will coordinate activities scheduled from November 10 to 15, 2025, in Nouakchott.
Eligible applicants include NGOs or associations operating in the fields of environment and climate change in Mauritania with at least two years of experience in organizing events on these topics. Applicants should also have conducted at least one environmental awareness or education activity in schools, colleges, or high schools in the country and be eager to highlight their work to a broader audience.
Interested organizations must submit a comprehensive application, including administrative information about their structure, an activity report demonstrating prior experience, a detailed project proposal for Green Diplomacy Week, and a forecast budget for the proposed activities. Project proposals should not exceed five pages and must adhere to a maximum budget of MRU 180,000. Certain expenses, such as per diems, may be excluded by the EU Delegation if they do not align with the specifications.
The selection process involves two stages. A maximum of ten organizations will be pre-selected in October 2025 to present their proposals to a five-member jury. Each shortlisted organization will have three minutes to present their project, and the winning organization will be responsible for organizing the activities in partnership with the EU. Administrative requirements for the winning structure include presenting registration documents, tax identification, and bank account details, with the possibility of providing additional information upon request.
The deadline for submitting applications is October 6, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. The initiative provides a platform for local organizations to engage in environmental awareness, strengthen their visibility, and contribute to sustainable development efforts in Mauritania.
