The Brazilian Presidency of COP30 has launched Maloca, an innovative digital platform designed to expand participation in climate action globally. Serving as a legacy of COP30, Maloca provides an inclusive, interactive space for dialogue, collaboration, and solution-sharing, with a particular focus on amplifying voices from the Global South. The platform aims to connect people from all regions to the climate conference process, ensuring broader engagement beyond the physical location in Belém.
Maloca aligns with COP30’s priorities of strengthening multilateralism, linking climate policies to people’s daily lives, and accelerating the implementation of the Paris Agreement. The platform enables governments, civil society, and communities worldwide to convene in virtual environments, share knowledge, and actively contribute to climate discussions. Civil society organizations can register to host presentations, discussions, and solution-sharing sessions, fostering diverse participation in shaping the global climate agenda.
Developed in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Maloca is accessible via both website and mobile app, removing geographical and financial barriers to participation. The platform incorporates AI-powered translation in seven languages and can host up to 7,200 events across 20 virtual environments during the 15 days of COP30. It also features Macaozinho, an AI climate assistant trained on official UN documents, providing science-based information free from disinformation.
The platform was conceived before COP29 in Baku to enhance public participation in COP30. It has already been used during New York Climate Week, including a panel discussion on environmental sustainability and AI, and has recorded over 4,000 user accesses from all continents. Maloca forms part of the Route to Belém initiative, a partnership between UNDP Brazil and the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aimed at expanding access to climate conferences and fostering inclusive global engagement.
Maloca’s launch reflects Brazil’s commitment to making climate action accessible to everyone and establishing a lasting legacy for COP30. Institutions, governments, and private sector entities can submit proposals for COP30-related events on the platform until October 12, with approved events announced on October 19, creating an ongoing opportunity for global collaboration on climate solutions.
