Finland has announced a contribution of EUR 1 million in flexible core resources to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for 2025. This support will strengthen UNDP’s capacity to accelerate sustainable development initiatives and provide timely assistance to the communities most in need around the world.
Flexible core resources play a vital role in enabling UNDP to respond effectively to complex and prolonged crises. For instance, in Ukraine, such funding has allowed the organization to assist with government-led resilience and recovery measures while ensuring essential services reach vulnerable populations. This type of unrestricted support ensures that UNDP can act swiftly, strategically, and sustainably in volatile environments.
As a development agency, UNDP relies heavily on voluntary contributions from UN Member States. Unrestricted financing from Finland and other partners allows the organization to maintain operations in 170 countries, where it plays a central role in advancing national priorities tied to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Looking ahead, UNDP aims to deepen its collaboration with Finland to advance shared goals, including promoting women’s and girls’ empowerment, strengthening inclusive governance and the rule of law, accelerating climate action, harnessing digitalization, and attracting additional investment for sustainable development.
The contribution underscores Finland’s commitment to multilateral partnerships and reflects UNDP’s appreciation for this long-standing cooperation in building a more equitable, resilient, and inclusive world where no one is left behind.
