The West African Development Bank (BOAD) has officially joined the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, an initiative led by the Brazilian Presidency of the G20. The Alliance focuses on eradicating hunger and poverty while reducing inequalities by supporting low-income countries, aligning with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 1, 2, and 10). BOAD’s membership, approved in August 2025, places it among 197 global members, including countries, international organizations, financial institutions, and foundations, further reinforcing its commitment to strengthening food security efforts in West Africa.
Through this membership, BOAD will contribute to two key pillars of the Alliance: financing and knowledge sharing. Under the financing pillar, the Bank will align its project objectives with the Alliance’s global agenda, prioritizing food security within the sub-region. Under the knowledge sharing pillar, BOAD will draw on over five decades of experience supporting WAEMU member countries, offering technical expertise and operational insights, while also learning from the collective knowledge of the Alliance’s diverse partners.
This collaboration will enhance BOAD’s capacity to implement high-impact programs by leveraging the policy tools, resources, and support mechanisms made available through the Alliance. Ultimately, its participation will accelerate the Bank’s efforts to deliver sustainable solutions to hunger and poverty while contributing to global efforts for greater equity and resilience.
