J-PAL LAC’s Community of Practice (CoP) for Gender Equality and Evidence Use aims to bring together government officials, researchers, NGOs, and civil society to address structural barriers that limit the empowerment of girls and women across Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). The CoP facilitates periodic meetings where evidence is shared, and participants exchange knowledge, best practices, and strategies to promote gender equality and expand social and economic opportunities for women and girls. By combining diverse perspectives, the community seeks to create sustainable solutions that enhance the well-being and empowerment of women in the region.
The third CoP gathering is scheduled for September 23 at 1 PM ET and will be held online via Zoom, focusing on programs that engage men in preventing gender-based violence. The event will begin with a presentation by Ana Maria Colina, J-PAL Policy Manager for the Crime, Violence, and Conflict Sector, who will share insights from randomized evaluations on interventions targeting men.
Following the presentation, a panel discussion will feature Erica Field, J-PAL affiliate and Professor of Economics and Global Health at Duke University, along with Isabel Viana (SEMUJERES) and Hugo Barbosa (GENDES A.C.), who will discuss the challenges and lessons learned from implementing programs aimed at male participants. The session will conclude with a Q&A segment, providing participants the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers and explore evidence-based strategies for preventing gender-based violence through male engagement.
