UNESCO partnered with Namibia’s Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare to empower 66 boys from Windhoek through a leadership and dialogue training event held on August 14, 2025. The Boy Child Empowerment Event took place at the After School Centre in Grysblock and brought together boys from six local schools, including C.J. Brandt High School and Hage Geingob High School. This gathering aimed to provide a unique platform for young learners to engage in discussions on important life topics and personal development.
Themed “Shaping Tomorrow’s Men Today,” the event featured 10 distinguished speakers from diverse organizations such as the Bank of Namibia, Namibian Police Force, B2Gold Namibia, the Ministry of Health and Social Services, and UNICEF. These experts guided the boys through conversations on self-identity, purpose, crime prevention, mental health, substance abuse awareness, and leadership skills. The speakers also emphasized career opportunities across various industries, encouraging the boys to recognize and nurture their potential. UNESCO’s involvement helped frame these discussions within a global context, stressing to participants that their futures and voices hold significance beyond Namibia.
According to the Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare, the event was designed to affirm the value of the boy child and promote inclusive development. The supportive environment encouraged the boys to openly express themselves, challenge societal stereotypes, and embrace their full capabilities. The interactive nature of the event fostered confidence and motivation among participants, inspiring them to take on leadership roles and contribute positively to their communities.
Overall, the Boy Child Empowerment Event succeeded in creating an inspiring and empowering experience for the boys of Windhoek. By providing them with the tools and encouragement to become responsible leaders, UNESCO and its partners reinforced the importance of investing in young men as a vital part of the nation’s future development.
