The American Red Cross is calling on donors to give blood or platelets to help maintain a strong and steady supply for patients in need. Donors of all blood types are encouraged to contribute, with an urgent need for O positive and B negative blood. Ensuring an adequate supply is vital so lifesaving products are available the moment they are required.
This month, the Red Cross is once again partnering with PEANUTS to highlight the message that a little good goes a long way. In celebration of the 75th anniversary of PEANUTS, donors who give blood between August 29 and September 21, 2025, will receive an exclusive Red Cross x PEANUTS mystery bag containing one of four special T-shirt designs, while supplies last. To add excitement, some bags across the country will contain golden tickets, which allow winners to redeem all four shirt designs online.
The Red Cross emphasizes that donating blood is not only an act of kindness but also a crucial way to support patients who depend on timely care. Appointments can be scheduled easily by visiting RedCrossBlood.org, using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, or calling 1-800-RED CROSS.
Seasonal challenges continue to affect the nation’s blood supply. With the arrival of fall, busier schedules and the ongoing risk of severe weather, including hurricanes, threaten to disrupt blood donations. From July 2024 to June 2025 alone, around 1,500 blood drives were canceled due to weather, resulting in the loss of over 40,000 potential donations. The Red Cross stresses the importance of making and keeping appointments where conditions are safe, ensuring patients have access to blood whenever and wherever it is needed most.
