The African Development Bank Group will convene a four-day training programme and policy dialogue from August 26 to 29, 2025, at Lugar do Mar in Macaneta, Mozambique. The event will bring together government officials, private sector representatives, civil society organizations, women entrepreneurs, and local communities to strengthen natural resource governance in fragile and transitional African countries under the Governing Natural Resource Outflows for Enhanced Economic Resilience in Fragile and Transitional Countries (GONAT) Project.
The GONAT initiative, led by the Bank’s African Natural Resources Management and Investment Centre and the African Development Institute, is designed to tackle pressing challenges in natural resource management across the continent. It seeks to build long-term capacity for monitoring, analyzing, and governing natural resource sectors, while advancing transparency and accountability.
Discussions will emphasize combating illicit trade in natural resources, improving oversight of resource-backed loans, promoting evidence-based policymaking for sustainable development, and strengthening debt management strategies. These efforts reflect the Bank’s commitment to supporting African nations in maximizing the benefits of their natural resources while reducing risks and ensuring resilience.
The project forms a central part of the Bank’s broader strategy to enhance natural resource governance and promote sustainable economic development across Africa, particularly in contexts of fragility and transition.
