The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have relaunched their self-paced Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on SDG-aligned Budgeting. The course aims to support governments, parliaments, and other stakeholders in integrating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) more effectively into national budgeting frameworks.
Structured into four modules, the programme introduces learners to the rationale and benefits of aligning budgets with the 2030 Agenda. It explains UNDP’s methodological approach, outlines practical steps for operationalizing SDG-aligned budgets, and highlights the important role of parliaments in ensuring accountability and oversight. Through interactive lessons, case studies, and assessments, participants are equipped to apply best practices within their own national contexts.
The course is designed for a wide audience, including staff from ministries of finance and economy, parliamentarians, Supreme Audit Institutions, academic professionals, and members of UN Country Teams. Upon completion, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how to promote policy coherence, improve fiscal transparency, and enhance the impact of public spending in advancing national SDG priorities.
