The International Labour Organization (ILO) has launched a new global policy tracker that offers a comprehensive overview of legislative initiatives on digital labour platforms. This tool is designed to support governments, as well as employers’ and workers’ representatives, by providing information that can guide discussions and help foster decent work in the fast-growing platform economy.
Digital labour platforms have created new markets for businesses and opened up job opportunities worldwide, benefiting groups such as women, young people, and persons with disabilities. However, this transformation of the workplace has also introduced challenges, particularly around ensuring fair wages, social protection, occupational safety, and the safeguarding of workers’ rights. The ILO’s tracker addresses these challenges by consolidating information on how different countries are responding to the evolving platform economy.
As part of the ILO Observatory on AI and Work in the Digital Economy, the policy tracker provides up-to-date and reliable data on regulations globally. It serves as a resource for policymakers, social partners, and researchers to better understand emerging trends and support evidence-based decision-making.
The tracker highlights national and regional approaches to key issues such as employment classification, pay, algorithmic management, working hours, data privacy, occupational safety, and rights related to contract termination and collective bargaining. By centralizing this information, the ILO aims to strengthen social dialogue and help shape a future of work that balances innovation with the protection of workers.
