Community groups across West Dunbartonshire have received more than £987,000 in grants to support vulnerable and disadvantaged residents. The funding aims to strengthen local initiatives that provide vital services and opportunities for people in need.
Through the Community Chest Grant Scheme, £25,000 was distributed to organisations to cover equipment, running costs, and activities for children, older residents, disabled children, and wider community events. In addition, over £50,000 from the Social Transport Grant was allocated to projects tackling social isolation and ensuring members could access clubs and activities.
Several organisations were supported through West Dunbartonshire Community Volunteer Service (WDCVS), which channelled more than £386,000 in funding. Meanwhile, the Dumbarton Common Good Fund awarded £522,319 to 23 groups, accounting for 91% of its £575,718 budget. The remaining £53,894 earmarked for Town Centre management will be redirected to the Council’s Regeneration section and is expected to be fully spent within the year.
Specific organisations benefitting from the grants include Alcoholics Anonymous, which received over £24,000; West Dunbartonshire Community Foodshare, which was awarded £18,000; West Dunbartonshire Citizen’s Advice Bureau, which gained £40,000; and Dumbarton Senior Citizens, which received £10,000.
Councillor William Rooney, Convener of Corporate Services, welcomed the funding, praising the commitment of voluntary and charity groups in supporting the area’s most vulnerable residents. He noted that the grants would provide essential benefits to those relying on these services.
Vice Convener Councillor Lawrence O’Neill also highlighted the importance of financial support, stating that the dedication of community and voluntary groups is making a clear difference in improving the lives of many across West Dunbartonshire.
