The second year of the Waste Not Somerset fund is now open for applications, offering financial support for innovative community projects that tackle waste. The fund, provided by Somerset Council in partnership with its waste collections contractor SUEZ Recycling and Recovery UK, targets local community groups and organizations across Somerset.
This initiative aims to drive positive change by funding projects that reduce or reuse waste, encouraging resourcefulness and sustainable practices within local communities. Applicants are invited to propose new initiatives, expand existing successful projects, or replicate proven waste reduction programs in new areas of the county.
Grants ranging from £5,000 to £10,000 are available to help these projects make a meaningful environmental impact by decreasing the amount of waste sent to disposal. Projects must clearly demonstrate their potential to reduce waste generation and promote sustainable practices.
Cllr Richard Wilkins, Executive Member for Transport and Waste Services, emphasized the council’s eagerness to support innovative community-led solutions and encouraged groups to submit applications that can make a real difference in Somerset.
