In line with Jordan’s 2021–2030 National Food Security Strategy, the Joint Programme led by FAO and UNIDO with support from the Joint SDG Fund is driving the transformation of the country’s agrifood systems. The initiative focuses on smallholder inclusion, innovation, and blended financing to tackle pressing challenges such as climate change, water scarcity, and economic pressures, which particularly impact small-scale farmers, women, youth, and refugees. By integrating systems-based approaches into national plans, the programme aims to strengthen food security, resilience, and inclusive growth across the sector.
Targeting the fresh fruits and vegetables sector, the programme works through three main avenues: upgrading the citrus value chain, establishing climate-smart post-harvest centers, and developing inclusive market systems. These actions are supported by gender and social inclusion measures, capacity-building activities, and a national monitoring and evaluation framework to boost value addition, market access, and sustainability. Engaging more than 600 stakeholders, the initiative lays the foundation for systemic change that empowers local producers and positions Jordan’s agrifood sector as a key driver of sustainable development.
