The UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning and the MARKK museum are hosting a Gender Talk that explores the powerful role of artistic and cultural expression in shaping and reshaping gender narratives. The discussion will focus on how art and lifelong learning can challenge gender bias, promote inclusion, and serve as tools for social change. Three central themes will guide the event: the role of art in advancing gender equality, the way cultural objects reflect and influence gender norms across time and societies, and how creativity, supported by lifelong learning, empowers individuals to dismantle stereotypes.
The event will feature examples from MARKK’s collection and bring together artists, cultural managers, educators, and gender experts. Their perspectives will illustrate how museums, educational institutions, and community initiatives can work together to challenge ingrained gender stereotypes and inspire more inclusive futures. The session will combine personal stories, historical insights, and creative approaches to explore how culture and education can “brush off bias” and foster gender equality.
This Gender Talk will take place on 11 September 2025, from 18:00 to 19:30 at the Museum am Rothenbaum – Kulturen und Künste der Welt in Hamburg, Germany. The program will include opening remarks, presentations from cultural leaders, and a moderated discussion, concluding with closing reflections from the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning.
