Twenty-one community groups from across the municipality will share more than $72,000 in funding through the Council’s 2025/26 Community Development Fund. The grants will support a wide range of local projects that aim to deliver social, recreational, and infrastructure benefits to their respective communities.
The annual grant program offers up to $5,000 to eligible not-for-profit groups and organizations. Its purpose is to help improve community facilities, foster stronger social connections, and enhance overall wellbeing through targeted local initiatives.
Mayor Cr Stuart King emphasized the significant and consistent impact of the program, noting the resourcefulness of local groups. He explained that the grants enable community-driven ideas to be brought to life, such as facility upgrades, public art projects, and improved amenities for both volunteers and community members.
This year’s supported projects reflect a diverse range of needs and priorities. These include practical upgrades like thermal blankets for the Nyah Pool and new lighting at the Swan Hill Motorplex, along with installations of murals, cricket net extensions, and kitchen improvements. Other initiatives include air conditioning, rainwater tanks, improved storage, and resurfaced paths for safer access.
Several organizations will also use the funds to enhance their community events and fundraising efforts. For example, M8’s SMC will upgrade a BBQ trailer, while the Swan Hill Show Committee plans to purchase new sound equipment. The funding will also help preserve and enhance important community spaces like the Annuello Hall.
Cr King underlined that even small projects play a meaningful role in enriching local life. Each initiative contributes to the wellbeing, vibrancy, and pride of the municipality’s communities. He reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to supporting grassroots organizations that are central to building healthier, more connected towns and rural areas.
