The ClimDev-Africa Phase II Planning Workshop is being jointly organized by the African Union Commission, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), and the African Development Bank from 30 July to 1 August 2025 in Nairobi, Kenya. The event brings together technical experts, regional stakeholders, and core institutional partners to advance Africa’s climate resilience agenda.
The ClimDev-Africa programme, initiated in 2011, has played a vital role in strengthening climate information services, early warning systems, and integrated policy frameworks across the continent. With Phase I now completed, the second phase aims to deepen efforts by focusing on governance improvements, resource mobilization, and alignment with Africa’s evolving climate priorities.
During the workshop, participants will assess the outcomes and lessons learned from the first phase and engage in discussions on institutional reforms to enhance the programme’s governance and operational capacity. A central objective is to establish a joint roadmap to mobilize an estimated $191 million in support of Phase II implementation. The convening institutions will also explore strategies to reinforce inter-agency coordination moving forward.
Held ahead of the 2nd Africa Climate Summit (ACS-II) and COP30, the workshop is strategically positioned to contribute to shaping a unified African stance on global climate action. It reaffirms the ClimDev-Africa programme’s importance as a cornerstone of Africa’s climate governance infrastructure.
Participation in the workshop is by invitation only, with limited media access restricted to the opening session. However, pre-arranged interviews with key officials may be granted upon request.
